A letter to my readers

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted something on Afterall. This has two reasons. The first is that I’m a bit struggling with the design, it’s not fully what I want it to be. So stubborn as I am, I didn’t want to post anything until it was perfect (later on I noticed how stupid that thought was, and started writing again). Secondly and more importantly I’ve been thinking about this blog a lot. About my approach but also whether my tips are useful. Is Afterall original or just another site with tips on the same topic? Is simple living that simple? How can I make this blog fully mine?

Yes, I write all of the articles myself, but I do find my information on websites, in books or from other people. So how much of this is fully mine? Of course I’ve tried all the tips and won’t post something that didn’t work for me. But can’t you find all of this somewhere else? Why do you guys even read my words? As you probably already noticed, I had lots and lots of doubt and questions. Many of which I still haven’t found an answer to.

After tobbing for a while I decided to make this site more personal. For myself but also for you. When I read a blog I love to know the person behind it: what does (s)he likes? How did (s)he learned all this? Or even the simplest questions like what does (s)he do on regular weekdays and even what does (s)he likes to eat. I hope this new approach will minimize the gap between you and me so we can have a dialogue in stead of a monologue.

Many questions, but also a lot of new ideas and new ways to simplify my life. Knowing that every one has to search for his own happiness, I can still try to inspire you and let you explore new things to do, eat, think. Simply by sharing what keeps me busy, what I’ve learned and even what I’ve been thinking about (since wandering and daydreaming is one of my main activities).

I want to open my topics and not only write what you might try so you can simplify yourself. I want to give you a little sneak peek in my life and head without being too emotional and all (I’ll save that for my closest friends). Does this mean that I stop giving tips? No, of course not. I might write a list of tips and you’ll find some more in the texts. I can assure you that it won’t become my diary, the main goal still is to help you living a more simple life and finding new ways to accomplish this!

The thing with simple living (and many other things in life) is that there isn’t one way of doing something. My way isn’t the only one and definitely not the only right one. There is no right or wrong, there’s you doing it your way and me telling you all about my way.

I hope you’ll like this new Afterall and I would love to hear what you think about all this. Suggestions, ideas and sweet words are all welcome.

Lots of love •

Illustrations: I’ve included some illustrations of the very talented Kate Pugsley. Just because I think they’re beautiful and fit my words very well.
